The Doctor Who Serial & Doctor Who Audios Serial: The History

Pretty much everyone in countries such as the UK, United States, Canada, New Zeeland & Australia and so on will have at least heard of the world famous Sci-Fi show Dr. Who by the BBC! Now that DW is back on TV since 05 after it’s 15 year absence the show has gotten very popular again, so mush so in fact that even the Science fiction channel has taken an interest in the serial.

Doctor Who all began in November 1963 when it’s first episode aired on television taking the Dr. and his companions back into the past where they aided some cavemen to make the discovery of fire. Taking into account the brand new show DW is currently the longest running Science fiction show of all time! Star Trek is the 2nd longest running Science fiction series of all time having began in 1966 with stories being produced up in to only a few years ago.

With the huge popularity of DW, the BBC began making Dr. Who Audio back in the 70s for cassette and LP. The 1st releases were mostly soundtracks from the episodes with linking narration by the Drs. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book stories exclusively for Audio Book release.

Also the Dr. Who Audio family was extended with the release of Audio Books from episodes that had solely appeared on the radio. Also a lot of of the lost stories have been re done by their original Drs in the Audio format making them finally available to the general public once more. The range spans all the way though the first Doctor right up until the present Doctor, David Tennant. Additionally Torchwood Audio and Sarah Jane Audio have also been added in recent times.

One of the cool things about Dr. Who Audio Books is that they provide us the freedom to listen to our favorite episodes anywhere we want with the use of the modern mp3 player. With multitasking becoming more and more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audiobook sales for both Dr. Who and in general have increased. Another reason why individuals like Dr. Who audio is because in many cases the audio stories are now read by the actors of the series. Parents also buy them for kids entertainment in cars etc.

The way things stand right now it looks like Doctor Who and its spin-off series torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing very well so things look good for us to be able to be entertained by them for some years to come.
