Using Social Networking Sites for Business and Fun

Social media in the form of online social networks and online social bookmarking are incredibly popular these days. Yet, it’s difficult to determine which is right for you because it would be hard to try all of them. This is why many Internet users find social network reviews valuable. When reading the reviews, however, you may find that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Many folks defend their choice of online social networking sites vehemently. That’s probably because the site they fell in love with is one of the few they tried and all their time was taken up with one site before they knew what was happening. Some people defend their choice without even knowing the variations between business networking Web sites, social bookmarking sites and social networking sites that are primarily there for fun. Many people don’t know that there also are online social media sites, like Capazoo, that pay for people to use and promote them.

Many people aren’t aware of the variations between social networks because there is enormous overlap of features on the various sites. As an example, HubPages can be used for either business networking or to just have fun. And there are literally tens of thousands of Ning sites, such as Book Market, which specialize in narrow niches. These sites are really where the rubber hits the road when it comes to free social networking because they’re completely user-driven and allow focused conversations surrounding people’s interests. Interests can be as specific as book aficionados, who now have many online communities geared just to them. Online social networking sites that feature book reviews, like GoodReads, cater to bookworms everywhere. An innovative variant of online networking is social bookmarking, because it opens up new worlds of information storage and retrieval. Social bookmarking sites like Reddit allow people to save their favorite bookmarks so they can access them online any time. Social bookmarking sites also are a great help to Web searchers, because searches are greatly enhanced by tagging. Keyword tagging also makes social bookmarking sites of great interest to online marketers, because backlinks result from the use of bookmarks. A single social bookmark link doesn’t carry a lot of weight yet when a site has many of them, it can change the amount of search engine traffic it receives. As with BloggingZoom, when a link is posted on these web properties, high Google rankings can result if it is submitted correctly and has the right keywords associated with it.

The boundaries are made even more murky with sites like Yahoo Buzz, which are set up for both social networking and social bookmarking. They are quite useful for bookmarking URLs but they also provide a wonderful platform for online social networking and marketing. There are a lot of friends and business contacts to be found on these types of Web properties and links posted to these social networking platforms sometimes rank well in the search engines. This makes these type of sites genuine gold to Internet marketers.
